Library Policies & Procedures

Circulation

  • Your Blair ID serves as your library card to check out materials, including computers.
  • The checkout period is three weeks for most books.
  • There are no fines on regular loans, but you will be charged $.50 per day for overdue Overnight Reserve items, beginning with the day the book was due, if it is returned later than 7:45 a.m. that morning.
  • Any books that are charged out on your card are your responsibility, even if you checked them out for a friend. If your friend does not return them, you have to pay for them.
  • You will receive a notices of overdue materials account from your teacher.

Conduct

  • The media center must be used as it is intended: for research, homework, reading, or other school related activities.
  • Computers are to be used for schoolwork only. This rule applies all day, including before school, after school and during lunch. If you are using the computer for anything other than schoolwork, you will be asked to give up your computer.
  • If you use any books that you do not intend to check out, put them on the Return Books cart when you are finished.
  • There is no eating or drinking allowed in the media center. Water is allowed.
  • All other applicable school rules will be in effect in the media center.

Computer use is monitored to ensure compliance with MCPS policies

Computer accounts:

  • Users are responsible for their own individual accounts and must keep passwords strictly confidential.
  • Users are prohibited from sharing accounts and passwords. Any violations that can be traced to an individual account name will be treated as the responsibility of the account owner.
  • Users must log off all systems before leaving a computer or workstation or allowing others to use it.

Computer conduct and use:

  • System tampering is prohibited, as is capturing passwords, email addresses, or documents of others.
  • Using language, pictures, or other material that is obscene, vulgar, abusive, or otherwise harmful to students is prohibited.
  • All use of computer facilities, networks, and other technology resources must be for educational purposes.
  • Before school, during lunch and after school computers must be checked out. Please see the media center staff with your ID card for this.
For more information, see the MCPS Acceptable Use Policy.

Passes

  • The library is open to anyone before school, from 7:15 - 7:45 am, and after school until 3:30 Monday -  Friday.
  • Passes are not required during lunch periods. The media center staff reserves the right to close the media center if there are classes in session, or if the library has reached a reasonable capacity.
  • During all class periods you must have a pass, written in your plan book, from your teacher. When you come in, present your pass at the circulation desk and sign in.  All school policies apply to students on passes from class.
