Project LIT Books: Project LIT

What is Project LIT Community?

Project LIT Community

Project LIT Community — a national grassroots literacy movement that aims to get students excited about reading by highlighting diverse, high-interest, culturally relevant books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities. We work together to:

  • Empower students as READERS and LEADERS in their school and community.
  • Host Project LIT Book Clubs.
  • Flood our schools and communities with high-quality, culturally relevant books.
  • Champion & celebrate reading daily.
  • Inspire and support one another through sharing of lesson plans, resources, strategies, and book recommendations.
  • Create opportunities for students to connect with peers around the country.
  • Advocate for policies & practices that will help our students become lifelong leaders.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

At Blair, our Project LIT chapter is sponsored through the library media center by Mrs. Sandie Chen and has 35 active members who read and serve the school community together. We meet every Wednesday during lunch in the library media center. Every year we read at least 8 books together and also participate in the following programs:

  • Reading to preschoolers at SSDS
  • Host two annual Free Book Fairs for Blair students and staff
  • Donate books to Title I schools
  • Attend We Need Diverse Books' Walter Dean Meyers Awards
  • Host Author talks and visits

Thank you to Albert Einstein High School's Media Center for sharing the content below with us!
